Saudi Border Guards have managed to thwart a large number of trafficking incidents during the past month, a government official said.
Brig. Gen. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, spokesman of the Saudi Border Guards, disclosed that an estimated 26,212 infiltrators and 526 drug smugglers were arrested last month.
In addition, Al-Ghamdi highlighted that the border patrols foiled attempts to smuggle 235.7 kilograms of narcotics, 442 pieces of weapons and 8,000 rounds of ammunition into the Kingdom.
Within the last two days, security officials in Asir Region arrested around 681 infiltrators, according to reports published by the security committee in the region.
The Saudi-Yemeni border zone has bore the brunt of infiltrators and narcotic traffickers.
According to officials at the Saudi Guards, the number of infiltrators into the Kingdom from the Saudi-Yemeni border has been estimated at 3,000 per day, most of them Yemenis and Somalis.
The sources explained that most of the people crossing into the borders illegally are job seekers, while the remaining are weapons and narcotics’ smugglers.
