Saudi mission in UN opens workshop on WMDs

NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Mualimi, opened yesterday the Third Workshop on the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, regarding the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Al-Mualimi said that the workshop is sponsored by Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the UN and comes as part of a program that was agreed upon with the Security Council Committee on Resolution 1540, under which the the kingdom donated $ 500,000 to help the committee carry out its tasks.
He also said that this workshop is pursuant to the successful workshops held in New York in December 2012, and Riyadh in January 2013.
The opening ceremony was attended by members of the committee, heads of Arab states' missions in the United Nations and representatives of relevant international organizations, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
