Students at a Pakistani school here paid homage to well-known poet and philosopher Allama Mohammed Iqbal by writing essays on his achievements, delivering speeches, and hanging posters of anecdotes and his writings around the campus.
The event was organized at the Pakistan International School Jeddah-English Section (PISJ-ES) on Sunday, April 21.
The school principal, Sen. Sehar Kamran, said that the commemoration of Iqbal’s death in 1938, should be a time to remember the philosophy and teachings of the “Poet of the East.”
“Allama Iqbal had infused a revolutionary spirit into the nation. He floated and passionately preached the idea of creating a separate nation for Muslims of the subcontinent. Through his poetry, he educated and groomed the students, youths and Muslims to recognize their identity and reach their destination.”
“Iqbal expected the younger generation to follow him with a fresh interpretation of the Qur’an and the Sunnah and discover mutual harmonies that would enable Muslims to learn modern science and use technology to improve their existence,” she said. She said he was a remarkable poet, philosopher and politician. His poetry in Urdu and Persian has been widely regarded for decades.
“It is our foremost responsibility in Saudi Arabia to promote Pakistan through this platform. There is a need to tell the younger generation how Iqbal became a great poet and a social reformer. What were his contributions to Pakistan? It is our responsibility to introduce his life and works to students.”
“I also pray that my students studying here become the future architects of Pakistan and may they have a luminous future like that of Iqbal.”
