Violet wins SPTC Chairman’s Cup 213

Violet pulled a surprise as it beat tournament leader Green 2-1 to emerge the champion in the Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club’s (SPTC) Chairman’s Cup 2013 which concluded recently at the King Abdul Aziz University tennis court in Jeddah.
Although losing a hard fought first set with Marlon Pagsanjan and Celso Abella bowing to Green’s Moi Noto and Mahdi Guna Mahyuddin at 5-8, Violet did not lose composure and supported teammate Lito Bentulan to victory against Zakir Abdulghane 6-4 in the second set singles play to tie the score at 1-1.
In the third and decisive set, Violet’s Erwan Nurlawis and Rik Hamza Maulion proved the better pair as they controlled the early rampaging pair of Jun Tomas and Ellie Baltar to close out the set at 8-4 and win the match at 2-1 together with the championship.
An aftermatch special event before the awarding ceremony was the battle of former SPTC chairmen featuring Cesar Quilendrino and Ali Callanta on one hand against the tandem of Gary Bautro and Rading Bautista, which the latter won with a score of 8-7. Also, a special recognition was given to the Best Singles Player of the tournament in Mario Betorio of Orange for winning all his games.
This single round-robin team tennis tournament with six teams is organized by the Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club with its new set of officers for 2013 under the helm of Chairman Marlon Pagsanjan. Other officers are Oca Lovitos, VC-Internal Affairs; Erwan Nurlawis, VC-External; Jun Tomas, VC-Membership; Eleazar Baltar, Secretary; Jose Mari Bravo, treasurer; Vhoi Ortiz, auditor; Lito Bentulan, business manager; Ben Micu, tournament director and Chet Bautista, Public Relations director. Club advisers are Quilendrino, Bautista and Bautro. Providing logistical support is Astec adviser Bernie Soguilon.
