The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) will establish 20 local, regional and specialist museums across the Kingdom, said its chairman, Prince Sultan bin Salman.
The plan involves the development of a number of heritage towns where the owners of private museums will be made partners in the process.
The creation of the new museums is part of efforts to develop Saudi national heritage, said Prince Sultan during his opening speech at the second forum for owners of private museums, which was also attended by Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman.
“This development process of Saudi heritage is sponsored and supported by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman as part of a comprehensive national program which will lead us to re-explore our national heritage and restore and develop it to become an integral part of the lives of citizens and the national economy,” said Prince Sultan.
The prince said he personally cherished this partnership with museum owners to develop this particular course of culture. “We feel that the new era of museums will link citizens with their heritage and history.”
Prince Sultan said that a number of tourism and cultural projects would be established in Madinah, including an interactive museum that will personify historical events such as the Battle of Uhud Battle and the Battle of Badr.
