RIYADH: Al-Ittihad demolished Al-Shabab 4-2 on Wednesday night to capture the 2013 King’s Cup of Champions at the King Fahd International Stadium.
It was Ittihad's second King's Cup title, the kingdom's premier football tournament. It first won the title in 2010.
Four minutes into the second half, Mokhtar Falatah gave Ittihad its first goal and Fahad Al Muwallad followed with another on the 12th minute, making it 2-0 for the Jeddah team.
With just 20 minutes remaining, Nassir Al-Shamrani scored one for Shabab, slashing Al-Ittihad's lead, but Naif Hazazi responded quickly to make it 2-1 for Ittihad.
On the 82nd minute of play, Al Shamrani hit another goal, only to see Gyorgy Sandor restore Shabab’s two-goal lead with just a minute remaining.
Sports analysts say Ittihad had a better advantage over Shabab after getting plenty of "young blood."
Al-Ahli, the tournament's consecutive winner for 2011 and 2012, managed to eke out a 3rd place finish this year.
