Citizens and expatriates are experiencing extreme overcrowding at the passports department with long queues extending several meters outside the premises.
Brig. Maeesh Al-Talhi, director of the Taif passports department, said that long queueing is normal under such circumstances
“No need for an evening shift; everything is under control at the moment.”
Abdullateef Al-Thumali said that he waited outside for more than an hour just to get inside and take a number for his turn.
“We are demanding that the department schedule an evening shift to mitigate the congestion experienced by citizens and expats,” Al-Thumali said.
Another citizen, Khalid Al-Harthi, said that the narrow grace period granted for expat violators has caused the congestion.
“The department should have taken into account the whole process, suspending days offs and working at full capacity to meet increased demand,” he added, noting that this would have contributed to a smoother and quicker work process.
He demanded that staff be increased to accelerate the process of handing paperwork.
