The International Indian School of Dammam (IISD), one of the largest schools in the Gulf region, with over 16,000 students and more than 800 faculty members, launched its Alumni Forum (AF) on Thursday.
The first meeting was attended by 50 former students.
Dr. E. K. Mohammed Shaffe, principal and head of the school, inaugurated the meeting and presented the vision of the AF.
Abdulla Manjeri, coordinator of the academic sub-committee at the school managing committee, wished the forum success.
Lt. Col. J. A . Rocque presented the by-laws of the organization and outlined the procedures and guidelines governing the forum. Marwa Sirajuddin, an architect and an ex-student of the 2002 graduating class and currently employed with the community maintenance department of Saudi Aramco, recounted her experiences as a student at IISD.
Students of Class X 2008 or earlier classes, and Class XII of 2010 or earlier classes presently in Saudi Arabia can enroll as members of the alumni.
Efforts are being made for the formation of a Global Alumni with chapters all over the world. An adhoc alumni committee was formed, with Mohammed Azam (1994) coordinator for boys and Sirajuddin (2002) coordinator for girls. Gulzar Wangade, Sumeet Sageer, Meros Mathew, Vipin Wales, Asish Cheriyan, Musad Sageer, Mohammed Omar, Mohammed Akbar, Nizar Wangade, Salma Rashid, Hiba Hashim, Saleha Rashid, Uasheena Abdul Latheef and Sajila Sali are members of the committee.
Alamgir Islam, vice-principal, senior-most faculty member Mariyu Sageer, Dhanalaxmi Ramanujam, N. Laxmaiah, Nazeer Maniyamkulam, Tasnim Muneer Ahmed, Mehnaz Fareed, Shobhan Saratchandran, Tamkeen Majida and Elizabeth Mathew, were present at the event.
K. M. Thirunavkkarassu, chairman of the managing committee, and other members were also present. Mumtaz Ali, a former student and currently a teacher at IISD, thanked the organizers.
