The Makkah Mayoralty has signed a contract with a local construction company to build housing units for employees of the Grand Mosque on an area of approximately 519,017 square meters.
Mayor Osama Al-Bar, chairman of Al-Balad Al-Ameen Company, said that it is a pioneer project that will contribute to the development of the western gate of Makkah.
“It is part of a bigger project that aims to develop the holy capital as a whole,” said Al-Bar, adding that the housing project, named the Rataj District Project, will include a residential city with integrated facilities and services.
“The main beneficiaries are the service sector employees at the Grand Mosque,” he said.
The city is strategically located along the Makkah-Jeddah highway on a 5-kilometer stretch and is 18 kilometers away from the Grand Mosque.
The chairman of the construction company, Fahad Al-Hashboul, said that the project is the first of its kind in the area.
He said the project will apply “eco-friendly techniques and state-of-the-art engineering.”
Al-Hashboul said that the project is divided into a number of residential furnished apartments, an area for single workers, one for families with independent residential units, and villas with varied designs to suit different social classes.
“The project also includes a commercial area, a park, a mosque, an international school, a medical center and various sports facilities,” he said.
