A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Princess Al-Anood Philanthropic Foundation (PAPF) with the Euro-Arab Foundation (EAF) for Arabic postgraduate studies in Spain.
The MoU was signed yesterday by PAPF’s Secretary-General Youssef bin Othman Al-Huzaim, during a visit to the country where he is expected to deliver three lecturers at Granada University. The lectures will be on Saudi charitable societies, Al-Anood Foundation as a model, and Saudi-Spanish cooperation.
Al-Huzaim is there as part of the foundation’s activities for boosting dialogue, exchange of ideas and collaboration in education. The two organizations are working to increase interest in science and the values of tolerance.
Earlier this year, the Euro-Arab Foundation, which is based in Spain, conducted in Riyadh a three-day human development training program. The latest cooperation is part of the two organization’s social responsibility for the benefit of civic societies and charitable organizations in Saudi Arabia. The courses were attended by 40 directors from various charity organizations in the Kingdom, including 35 female directors involved in the management of non-profit organizations.
According to a PAPF source the choice for Granada is due to its historic importance as a rich place for cultural and religious interaction.
He said the EAF program would promote economic and cultural relations between Europe and the Arab world, as well as organizing courses and training programs, studies and research.
Under the agreement EAF will study the possibility of creating a special master’s degree program in the NGO management, which Al-Anood Foundation plans to create in collaboration with the University of Granada.
Al-Anood Foundation has launched 13 voluntary projects covering all administrative regions of the Kingdom.
The EAF, an alliance of civilizations, was created in 2005, following a proposal from the governments of Spain and Turkey and with the support of the United Nations.
This initiative, launched by the Spanish President of the 59th UN General Assembly in 2004 seeks to create an alliance between Western and Arab Muslim world, in order to improve the understanding and cooperation among nations and people from different cultures and civilizations, so as to help in countering the forces at the core of polarization and extremism, by developing a dialogue among civilizations.
