A fire in the warehouse of Manuel Supermarket at China Town Space Mall here has resulted in a significant loss of goods.
The mall closed down for three days to allow for cleaning-up operations. No one was hurt in the incident.
Abdul Ghani Ali, a worker at the mall, said it was unclear how the fire started on Monday evening shortly after Maghreb prayer. He said “nothing serious” happened in the mall. When shoppers saw the smoke, they left the building immediately, said Ali.
The Civil Defense had to break windows to get into the building.
The workers at Manuel supermarket did not want to speak about the incident but confirmed the whole warehouse burned down resulting in a significant loss of commodities.
A worker at Star Supermarket nearby said no one knows how the fire started. Arab News was not able to get comment from the headquarters of Manuel supermarket.
