Saudi businesswomen seek level-playing field

A new set of proposals have been unveiled to encourage Saudi women's business projects.
Saudi businesswomen face a series of difficulties in undertaking investment projects related to policies, procedural matters, female manpower planning, and in dealing with governmental bodies, says a report released by the National Women’s Council of the Saudi Chambers.
Huda Al-Jeraisy, chairperson of the council, also outlined the difficulties and obstacles facing investment ventures initiated by Saudi businesswomen.
The report has called for the setting up of a supreme body to create a conducive environment to help businesswomen to develop their ventures throughout the Kingdom.
Al-Jeraisy stressed that female business leaders should be given an opportunity to participate in the development plans of the country and be allowed to create their own business mechanisms.
Al-Jeraisy said a supreme committee should comprise men and women who would offer advise and supervise women’s business ventures in the Kingdom.
The chairman stressed the need for cooperation between the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry to provide information centers for private investments and female projects.
