With the deadline for rectification of illegal expatriates’ status just days away, all roads leading to foreign embassies in Riyadh are facing congestion.
Thousands of expatriates are crowding the embassies in what is being described as a race against time. The main entrance to the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ), on the New Makkah Road, near King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, has become the busiest area.
Traffic is being diverted. Security police have been redirecting vehicles at the road bifurcating near the Egyptian Embassy before Saudi Commission for Health Specialties while coming from North Gate. “The rush was expected,” said Dr. Fauzia Butt. “I had to visit the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties for endorsing my medical certificates when I was stuck in the traffic for quite sometime.”
