This refers to the report “New law to protect domestic workers” (July 17). I think this is a very good decision taken by the Cabinet, as it will protect both maidservants and employers. As a matter of fact, both parties should strive to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship and avoid any scuffle or conflict.
If the employer treats the servant well and he is always prompt in giving the maidservant salary in time and does not harass her and look after her properly when she falls sick, then there will be a conducive atmosphere prevailing at home. On the other side, maidservants should also be sincere in their work, and she should not harm family members, especially infants and should not steal anything from the owner’s house.
She should work with dedication and she should not bear any grudge against her employer and run away. Apart from this, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said: “Pay the wages of the servant before his sweat dries out.” If the employer practices this teaching, then, there will be no trouble between the employer and the employee. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
