When 19-year-old Abdulaziz Al-Amoudi decided to cover his luxury sports car with decals to look like an American police car, he not only created a buzz on the Internet but also attracted the unwanted attention of the Jeddah police.
When Al-Amoudi first transformed the car, he posted pictures of it on social networking websites. “I did it for fun. I changed the look because I was participating in an event designed especially for cars and wanted mine to look different and special,” he said.
“I started taking photos with my brothers and friends and published it on Instagram. That’s how it all started,” he said.
Al-Amoudi said his friends shared the photos with others and the car soon became quite well known. “I started seeing the photos on different automobile websites and various media platforms,” he said.
“Then people on Twitter and in the media started talking about the Jeddah police looking for me. I was really concerned because I didn’t know what I had done wrong,” he said.
Al-Amoudi contacted the traffic police as soon as he heard about the news. “The police informed me that people were talking about my car and that they saw the photos online,” he said. “They told me that I should change the car back to its original look because the changes were not documented on the car license,” he said.
He said he did not drive around in the car and all the pictures of it were taken in front of his house. That’s why the “police let me go with only a warning,” he said.
Al-Amoudi’s Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was originally orange.
