A group of Saudis gathered this week for sahoor at the government-owned Ritz Carlton Hotel to discuss technology and compare notes on the subjects they read and write in their blogs.
“We are lucky to have organized this technology-savvy group of Saudis who are among the enthusiastic Arabic bloggers in the Kingdom’s capital,” said Ziad Matar, Qualcomm’s senior director and business development manager in the Middle East and Central Asia.
Qualcomm is a technology vendor and manufactures the majority of mobile and tablet central processing units (CPUs).
Faisal AlSaif, 34-year-old chief executive officer (CEO) of Tech Pills Productions, said that he found the gathering educational since the participants willingly shared their experiences and they knowledge they’ve acquired as bloggers.
“The participants talked about various topics involving technology, such as e-commerce, video games, telecommunication, home theaters, among others,” he told Arab News.
He added that the information he gained during the information exchange with the other bloggers “will help my company in video production.”
Ahmed Al-Kharji, 26-year-old website manager of ADSLGate.com, added that he was also happy to have accepted the invitation to join the gathering because being a blogger hews along his interests.
“I love to write and blog. I hope I can learn how to write better and express my thoughts lucidly and comprehensively. It’s an interest nurtured since many years back,” he said.
He added that joining the gathering finally enabled him to personally meet individuals whose blogs he had been reading on the Internet.
Mohammad AlNashar, 27 and a podcast host (similar to a radio host) said that the gathering inspired him. AlNashar’s show could be listened to through any smartphone or MP3 player.
“I was able to meet individuals with similar interests to mine and I could therefore identify myself with them. We discussed current social issues and topics we can feature on our blogs,” he said, adding that the meeting established a bond of friendship among the attendees.
The group animatedly talked until the wee hours of the morning and broke up just before sahoor. Among those who attended are members of the print and broadcast media.
