Sacks of rice, the most demanded commodity in the grain market, occupied a prominent place throughout the Kingdom’s markets with buyers sweeping up bags for distribution for Zakat Al-Fitr ahead of Eid prayers.
The price of rice packs varied between SR18 to SR21.
Businessman Abudulaziz Al-Abdulkareem expects buyers to spend more than SR300 million as a result of the abundant quantities available.
Some buyers complained that some sellers were selling bad rice.
Buyers have been exchanging social media messages that they should avoid places where people gather and claim they are poor.
Individuals have taken to the streets asking to be given Zakat Al-Fitr, and re-sell the items at a profit. Charity organizations opened all ways of communication with them in this regard to make sure that Zakat Al-Fitr reaches the poor and the needy.
