The principal of the English section of Pakistan International School in Jeddah, Sen. Sehar Kamran, exuded confidence that Pakistans’ future would be bright and that it would grow as a nation on the path of peace, strength and self-respect.
Sen. Kamran was speaking during a flag-hoisting ceremony at her school on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Independence Day of Pakistan.
Later, speaking with Arab News, the PISJ-ES principal said: “Challenges are there, but what we need at the moment is unity among various sections of society, peace in the country as well as in the region, a political consensus and a collective will to move ahead.”
She was full of praise for President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for their “mature politics, decent behavior and responsible standpoint” that she said had manifested during the smooth transfer of power following the recent parliamentary elections.
Speaking highly of Pakistan Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani too for his restrained approach during all these years, Kamran said this will surely be seen as a reflection of the changing atmosphere in the country, which is conducive to democracy and political sensibilities.
Earlier in the morning, the principal unfurled the Pakistani flag to huge cheers from a large audience in the school compound. The program began with Qur’an recital followed by the playing of national songs of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
It was, what Kamran said, “Pakistaniyat,” or Pakistanism, all the way as hundreds of those present there including prominent Pakistani citizens, students, parents and teachers, were jubilant, and enjoyed every moment of the occasion. As the main hall was packed to the brim and flags of all sizes fluttering everywhere, a parent said: “It seems like we are in Pakistan.”
Speaking about the school environment, Samina Ansari, the media coordinator, PISJ-ES, said: “The whole atmosphere here is drenched with the fragrance of love for the country. In this surrounding, not only do we make our best to provide students with wealth of education but also impart the spirit of love for Pakistan.”
Congratulating students who had achieved excellent results in the IGCSE, GCE O’ Level and AS/A Level examinations conducted by the University of Cambridge, UK, Sen. Principal Kamran said: “We are expecting our students to be placed among the top achievers and top position holders in the Global Breakdown and World Ranking of the Cambridge Exams.”
“We are proud of our students who have been receiving the Cambridge Brilliance Awards and top rankings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
She said it was worth noting that the school not only selects the best students for exam entry, but even those who may not be expected to reach the top grades, and they are encouraged to
aim for their best positive achievement.
