Haditha border guards seized 76,675 amphetamine pills concealed inside large dry brown beans on Tuesday.
“The drugs were carried inside four bags of natural large beans. Each individual bean was filled with pills, sealed with glue to hide the drug and wrapped in a plastic sheet,” said Hadita Customs General Director Zaid Al-Zaid.
Extensive use of amphetamine tablets can lead to symptoms such as delusion and paranoia. The pills are sometimes used as an alternative for Captagon tablets.
Regional media reported that one of the biggest drug busts in the world took place in November 2011, when United Arab Emirates anti-drug combat officers seized more than 200 kg of amphetamine worth $11 million (SR41 million) from an Iranian ship.
