The Pakistan Consulate organized the 5th job fair at the Pakistan International School Azizia on Friday to provide job opportunities for Pakistani workers with the aim of legalizing their status before the end of the second amnesty period in November.
Almost 40 companies set up stalls at the fair and about 400 expatriate workers attended the function.
There was also a stall set up for the Pakistan State Life Insurance Company to provide information on insurance opportunities to Pakistani workers with the cooperation of the government. Those who already have “protector insurance” can renew it from Jeddah. The country manager, Imran Abbasi, explained the protector scheme and its facilities and maximum premiums.
Pakistani Consul General Aftab Khokhar requested all Pakistani workers to avail the opportunity of residency permit transfers through such job fairs and the help of the consulate before the end of amnesty period.
He also warned nationals not to register with several companies.
“I would also like to remind Pakistanis who have registered with the consulate for exit visas not to turn up at the last minute. We only have 6 Mondays left, as Haj is coming in between, so please don’t waste this time,” he said.
He said that the employment website launched by the JCCI and local consulates to bridge the gap between employee and employer is still under construction.
Dr. Mazhar Kakakhel, welfare consul at the Pakistan Consulate, told Arab News that they don’t have accurate figures as to how many workers have already transferred their sponsorships since the last four job fairs but that there have been 4,000 to 6,000 Pakistani workers who have registered with companies.
