A Saudi doctor who was practicing medicine in his Jeddah home without a valid license was fined SR100,000 by the Ministry of Health following a directive issued by Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah.
“The doctor has been practicing medicine at his Jeddah apartment without proper legal documentation as stipulated by the Health Ministry,” a ministry spokesman said.
He said the minister’s directive was based on a report filed by the medical inspection team, which visited the Saudi doctor’s residence. Officials found medical equipment and apparatus that was used while he was with patients.
Last week, the ministry fined a female doctor in Madinah and two nurses, besides issuing a warning to another doctor for violating the regulations.
The doctor was working for a hospital in Madinah and was fined SR20,000 for failing to follow up on patients discharged from hospitals. The ministry also issued a warning to a doctor who had failed to assign management personnel to run the hospital and also for alleged recklessness with other government officers such as auditors.
In Taif, two nurses were fined SR3,000 and SR2,000 respectively for not being cordial with patients and relatives who visited the hospital.
