Tora Abulencia played a brilliant game to score 22 points and J. Hussein added 12 as KAAH 2 crushed Asyad selection 69-58 Friday last week in the championship game in the Ramadan Invitational Basketball Tournament 2013.
The long-drawn-out King Abdul Aziz Hospital tournament was organized by a committee led by one of Jeddah’s veteran guards Teddy Jamahali.
An overflow of crowd of basketball enthusiasts from the hospital villas and around Mhajar area turned out at the King Abdulaziz Hospital sports complex on the outskirts of Jeddah to watch the big game.
Using a running game and paralyzing defense KAAH 2 had little trouble disposing of Asya with the combination of cat-quick Abulencia and Hussein forcing turnovers by Asyad.
Asyad power center Macarulay, De Leon and Villafuerte battled fiercely but to no avail. They scored 21, 13 and 11 points respectively with minor support from their teammates Urbanozo and Burbano.
Abulencia, a guard, was named the MVP and led the mythical five team that included Best Forwards J. Hussein and Macarulay, Best Center Amir and Best Guard Villafuerte. They all received gift iteams from the sponsors and KAAH committee.
Earlier in the night, Perfetto Selection beat KAAH Selection 85-81 in a friendly exhibition game.
Perfetto played an inspired game to take control from start to finish.
The tournament major sponsor is Perfetto, a division of Basamh Industrial Ltd. The minor co-sponsors are ISA-Industrial Sports Association and KAAH.
With Commissioner Jamahali in the committee are Ali Hasturbahjin, tournament director; and Abner Halud, assistant tournament director.
