CARDIFF, Wales: England overcame a hat trick by Clint McKay to squeeze to a three-wicket win over Australia in the fourth one-day international on Saturday, leveling the five-match series at 1-1.
Needing seven runs off the last over to chase down Australia's 227 all out, Jos Buttler (65 not out) smashed a six and a four to see England home with three balls remaining at Sophia Gardens.
The home side was rocking on 8-3 after McKay removed Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Joe Root in successive balls to become the fifth Australian to claim a hat trick, but Michael Carberry steadied the reply with 63 before Buttler's late salvo.
George Bailey helped Australia recover from a poor start by hitting 87 off 91 balls.
The decider is played in Southampton on Monday.
