Jazan student arrested after killing teacher in class

A student stabbed his teacher to death in front of his classmates in a classroom at the Athwan Secondary School in the Sabya governorate of Jazan on Monday.
“The physical education teacher, who was attacked by a student in a school in Bani Malik, bled to death on his way to a hospital 20 kilometers away,” Col. Awad Al-Qahtani, a spokesman of the Jazan Police, said in a statement.
The perpetrator was immediately arrested and a team of detectives is investigating the case, he said.
Ahmed Rabie, the director of education in Sabya, visited Bani Malik General Hospital where the body is currently being kept. “The deceased, a native of Taif, joined the school five years ago and quickly became a role model for teachers,” Rabie said.
Rabie said authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the murder. A source said the perpetrator was in class at the time of the crime. The motive behind the murder remains unclear.
The source rejected a rumor that the student had assaulted one of the school laborers the same day.

It remains unclear whether the teenager had any history of mental disorder or was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime.
The unexpected savagery of the attack has shocked people at the school. The crime took place before other teachers could intervene, the source said.
A source at Bani Malik hospital said the victim suffered two deep cuts on the thigh and a third elsewhere on his body.
The source also said that the victim may have lost large amounts of blood due to the rocky road leading to the hospital, which was a distance away from the school.
The teacher is survived by wife and children.
