Foreign envoys expressed admiration for Saudi culture and the natural wonders of Saudi Arabia during their visit to Souk Okaz and other historical archaeological and natural tourist sights in the governorate of Taif.
The two-day tour, arranged for Riyadh-based envoys, was organized by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiques, which concluded on Thursday. The delegation was headed by Azzam bin Abdul Karim Qain, ministry secretary for protocol affairs.
Fahd bin Muammar, governor of Taif, hosted the delegation of envoys and briefed them on the historical importance of the hill station and its rich history, which dates back 1500 years.
The delegation visited the Shifa valley to witness agricultural activity and natural water wells, which fill up with rainwater.
The delegation was briefed on natural handmade products, their traditional marketing system and the growth of rose flowers, which is rare in the Kingdom.
Ambassadors paid a visit to Souk Okaz, where they enjoyed folk dances and other cultural programs.
Tour guides also shed light on the trail used by convoys passing through Taif to Syria and Yemen in the ancient era. Envoys also visited productive families at Souk Okaz, which were stationed inside a tent spanning 3,876 square meters at a cost of SR36 million. They also attended a traditional dinner at the premises following the completion of their tour.
Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao expressed a keen interest during the two-day visit.
Kuwait Ambassador, Shaikh Tamer Ahmed Al-Sabah, said that the city of Taif is integral to Gulf culture. Souk Okaz, a local initiative, receives many visitors from Western and Arab countries.
Qatar Ambassador Ali Al Mahmoud said that Qatari citizens attribute high tourist importance to Taif.
France Ambassador Bertrand Besancenot likened Souk Okaz to the Janadriya Festival that features ancient crafts and historical artifacts.
Jordan Ambassador Jamal Al-Shamayleh said that Souk Okaz paints an honorable image of Arab heritage and former glory.
Sudan Ambassador Hafez Ibrahim Mohammed said that Taif has many treasures in multiple areas, while also being an important agro-based economic center.
