Tang a popular fruit-flavored powdered-beverage from Mondelez International (formerly Kraft Foods), set a Guinness World Records for the largest donation of toys in 24 hours.
In partnership with non-government organizations Red Crescent in the UAE, ENSAN and KAFEL from Saudi Arabia, and Dar Al Atta'a from Oman, Tang and contributing children were able to collect and donate 30,000 toys, weighing a total of 20.713 tons (45,657 lb) as part of Tang''s Do Good campaign, winning the Guinness World Records title for the world's largest donation of toys in 24 hours.
"We are extremely happy to have set this world record through one of our strong brands in this region — Tang. This is the second Guinness World Records achievement for Mondelez International in the region," said Vishal Tikku, area director for Mondelez International in the Middle East.
"Both records have had a strong social element involving donations to the under privileged. Through Tang's Do Good campaign we went a step further by encouraging our loyal consumers to join a social cause, and thus help instill virtues of generosity and a selfless spirit among children."
The record was verified by Talal Omar, country manager MENA at Guinness World Records Ltd., who adjudicated the attempt along with his colleagues in Saudi Arabia and Oman. Tang needed to collect a donation of a minimum of 9 ton toys in order to be able to set this new world record.
"Omar said: "It is a stupendous feat achieved by both Tang and children, who managed to collect and donate a staggering 30,000 toys, (equivalent to 20.713 tons), thereby setting a new record for the world's largest donation of toys in 24 hours."
Tang celebrated the achievement with a finale event in Dubai, which was attended by NGO partners, along with members of the media, senior officials from Mondelez International and Guinness World Record and special guests.
The Do Good campaign was launched earlier this year by Tang at a press conference also attended by the charity partners and Guinness World Record Ltd., and called on children to participate by donating toys in different ways, thereby making them agents of change. The toys were collected during January to May and donated to children within 24-hours.
