JEDDAH: Reel & Rom scored a comfortable 36-run win over Butt Sports to clinch the Morning League Division I cricket title, sponsored and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association, here.
The highlight of the final was Aurangzeb’s match winning innings of 81 runs, which came off 49 balls studded with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Reel & Rom had won the toss and decided to bat. Waheed (14) and Nisar (25) started on a cautious note, which was later propped up by Irfan’s quick fire (24, off 25 balls).
Aurangzeb took over after that and played a gem of an innings, which helped his team put up 219 for 9 from their stipulated overs. Tahir impressed for the bowling side and did most of the damage with figures of 5 for 46. Bilal Butt gave him good support with 4 for 40.
In reply Butt Sports tried to make a fight of it but wickets fell at regular intervals. Despite the loss of early wickets, they rallied around Junaid Butt (36), Bilal Butt (25) and Atif (26). Junaid Butt retired due to cramps but resumed later. However he did not last long and was bowled by Nisar. Imran, came down the order, gave a fright to the rival camp with a brisk 28, but that was not good enough as the Butt Sports innings folded up for 183 for 9.
Nisar bagged 3 for 25 while Irfan Butt and Aurangzeb had 2 wickets each for 22 and 27 runs respectively.
Butt Sports is a family oriented team, which includes a father, his three sons and three nephews.
Al-Khulais defeated MHA by 33 runs to bag the hard-liners trophy. Al-Khulais set a target of 169 for rivals MHA, who managed to score 130 for 7.
For Khulais Adnan (40), Arshad (34), Haiz (16) and Akmar (14) were the main run getters in a total of 163 for 9.
Shad Muhammad had 3 for 21 runs whereas Adil, Zakir, Shabbir and Mubashir took a wicket each.
In reply the strong batting line up of MHA were restricted to 130. Shabbir top-scored with 30 runs followed by Shad Muhammad (19) and Sher (20).
Hasnain took 3 for 23 while Adnan bagged 2 for 12.
During the prize distribution ceremony, JCA Chairman Dr. Faiz-ul-Abedeen congratulated winners Reel & Rom, runners-up Butt Sports and Al Khulais. The Best Batsman and Best All Rounder award went to Faisal Khan of Saleheen (502 runs & 17 wickets). Best Bowler award went to Sabir also of Saleheen (22 wickets)
