King Abdulaziz University College of Business (COB) in Rabigh introduced the first Executive Master of Sports Management program at their premises.
Mohammed Gabril of the Sports Committee at the college told Arab News that the King Abdulaziz University Council adopted the program in 2011.
“The program represents the commitment of the university toward the development of sports in Saudi Arabia and seeks to apply administrative professionals to training in the field of sports management,” he said.
He further explained that the main goal of the program is to foster community-building through an educational process and scientific research.
Osama bin Sadiq Tayeb, KAU president, said there was no doubt the sport field was one of the most important fields to be well established, particularly as youth is the future.
“King Abdulaziz University fulfills its responsibilities toward the community through offering post graduate studies in different fields. These enable many executives to join these programs, which are based on the contents of the strategic plan of KAU. This aims to consolidate and activate the development in the Kingdom,” he said.
He explained that the Executive Masters of Sports Management program has been designed in accordance with international academic standards to prepare qualified professionals in sport management for their contribution and participation in the development process in sports of Saudi Arabia.
Abdalelah Saaty, dean of the business college, said it was a great initiative from KAU to offer the program through the college of business.
“The program will contribute to the sport sector by preparing qualified professionals with high academic standards in the field of sports management, which suffers from scarcity in administrative specialists,” he said.
The program’s objectives are to enable the students to take over the task of leadership in sports organizations and committees, create professional managers, develop the capacity of understanding the sports world and changes through the development of management skills. It will take students two years to complete the program.
