RIYADH: Mehran, Mughal and Super cricket clubs emerged winners in the RCL Sikandar Farooqui Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament sponsored by Saudi Cricket Center and organized by Riyadh Cricket League at the RCL Complex recently.
In the eight-week long tournament finals, Mehran routed Pakhtoon Khawah by 7 wickets in the Super Division, Mughal got the better of Super by 28 runs in the Premier Division I and Kashmir Press eased past Diamond by 79 runs in the Premier Division-II.
The highlights of the final matches were the outstanding batting performances by Faheem Shah, Usman Shah, Asghar, Iqbal and Noman.
In Super Division, Pakhtoon Khawah batted first and were skittled out for 111 runs. Iqbal was the only batsman who offered some resistance and scored a fighting 44. All the others failed to live up to expectations. Fakher impressed for the bowling side with 3 wickets while Osman Shah got 2. Assad Khan, Ibrahim, Faheed Abbas Shah and Jahanzeb took a wicket each.
In reply Mehran coasted to the required total for the loss of 3 wickets. Inform Faheem Abbas Shah top-scored with 51 runs. He was supported by Usman Shah’s unbeaten 46. Rana Munir claimed 2 wickets.
Man-of-the-Match: Usman Shah.
In Premier-I Division, Mughal set a reasonable target of 191 runs against Super. Thanks to Asghar’s 83 runs followed by Sajad Shah (30) and Javed (22). Baber Junior took 3 wickets while Faraz and Shafeeq shared 4. Norman and Riaz got a wicket each.
In reply Super managed 162 runs in their stipulated overs. Noman and Khawar scored 42, 33 runs respectively. Qasim, Waqar Bajwa and Asghar took 2 wickets each while Sajjad Shah got 1.
Man-of-the-Match: Asghar.
In the Premier Division-II, Kashmir Press had an easy time after they put up 171 runs. Zafar (29), Nazar (38), Razzaq (37) and Qasim (30) were the main contributors. Aamir bagged 4 wickets, Omar 3 and Ghulam Nabi 2.
In reply Diamond were bowled out for 92 runs. Waseem (31) and Hyder (25) were the only batsmen who put up a fight. Qasim ripped through the rival batting and claimed 5 wickets including a hat trick. Ghulam Nabi took 2.
Man-of-the-Match: Qasim.
At the prize distribution ceremony, awards were given to:
Best Batsman (Super Division): Faheem Abbas Shah of Mehran; (Premier-I): Syed Waqar of Gujranwala; (Premier-II): Shabab of Kashmir Press.
Best Bowler (Super Division): Majid of Mehran; (Premier-I): Sajjad Shah of Mughal; (Premier-II): Imran Khan of Karachi Times.
Player of the Tournament (Super Division): Imran Khan of NAB; (Premier Division-I): Abubaker of Samarwa; (Premier Division-II): Zeeshan Shah of Cricketers.
In the absence of RCL President Mamoor Elahi , Senior Advisor Razaur Rahman attended the ceremony along with other RCL members. Rahman highlighted the efforts of the committee for organizing the event and praised the support given by the Saudi Cricket Center (SCC).
SVP Jawaid Munawar praised the late Sikandar Faroqqui of EPCA for his devotion to cricket in Saudi Arabia and thanked the teams for making this tournament a success.
