RAK Airways has suspended all its operations from Wednesday.
“The decision for suspending operations was taken following an increased pressure on the carrier's performance due to continuous market conditions, increased operating costs and the impact of the regional political instability on the overall aviation industry,” the airline said in a statement e-mailed to Arab News.
The airline's current network includes Riyadh, Jeddah, Doha, Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Kozhikode and Katmandu.
“We have suspended all our operations until further notice,” a senior airline executive told Arab News who was unable to tell when the airline will resume its operation.
“The decision was made by the board of directors after reviewing the overall performance of the airline. We will take this time to re-evaluate the best options available for RAK Airways’ future. The re-evaluation will also consider options that best fit the industry requirements of Ras Al-Khaimah,” she added. ''The board of directors took the decision on Tuesday to suspend the operations until further notice. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the airline and its shareholders.”
The airline expressed its regret on the inconvenience caused to its customers.
The airline said all passengers who have made bookings with RAK Airways will be re-booked on alternative airlines or receive full refunds.
“The suspension of the service is sad news. RAK Airways was a good option for many less privileged to fly home via Ras Al-Khaimah. The service was good and fair affordable,” said Shameel Aboobacker, a resident of Jeddah.
