The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the local municipal council plan to launch a contest for the best street and neighborhood in the city.
The aim is to encourage the public to beautify and keep their areas clean.
Abdul Malik Jundi, president of the municipal council, and Adnan bin Hussein Mandoura, JCCI secretary-general, agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding covering various initiatives to upgrade the city.
Mandoura said the JCCI has several programs and initiatives aimed at developing the city. It recently organized the Jeddah Economic Forum and Hayya Jeddah shopping festival to help small and emerging enterprises and attract investment to the city.
Jundi said the municipal council recently launched the “Eye on the Neighborhood” program in five districts to create awareness among citizens to keep their streets clean by using garbage bins provided by the municipality, and protecting lighting, gardens and other city property.
He said the council had carried out 300 recommendations with the JCCI and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs “to make this the cleanest city in the world.”
