Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has backed the appointment of Prince Muqrin as deputy crown prince in addition to his position as second deputy premier.
“Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah made this appointment in the public interest and to safeguard the Kingdom’s stability,” the mufti said.
In a statement on Saturday, he said the royal decision was taken in the interest of the Muslim nation and would boost the Kingdom’s progress and prosperity.
King Abdullah issued a royal decree on Thursday for the appointment and said nobody would be allowed to change or replace Prince Muqrin as the next crown prince.
Prince Muqrin will receive an oath of allegiance at the Governor’s Palace in Riyadh on Sunday and Monday after Dhuhr, the royal court said.
Makkah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah will take the oath of allegiance on behalf of Prince Muqrin at the governorate in Makkah from scholars, officials, officers and citizens on Sunday and Monday.
Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman will receive the pledge of allegiance on behalf of the deputy crown prince at Sultana Palace after Maghrib on Sunday. Other regional governors will also receive the oath of allegiance from officials in their respective regions.
Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled will receive the allegiance at the Celebrations Hall in Khalediah in Abha at 10 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, while Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed will take the pledge of allegiance at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Jazan Gov. Prince Muhammad bin Nasser will receive the pledge of allegiance at his office in Jazan Sunday morning.
Al-Jouf Gov. Prince Fahd bin Badr will host citizens at his palace in Sakaka after Maghrib on Sunday and Monday.
