Woman killed in DPS bus accident

An expatriate woman was run over by a bus from the Al-Falah International School (DPS) in Jeddah at the intersection of Moalafeen and Arbaeen Streets on Wednesday afternoon.
Shah Nawaz, the transport manager of DPS, confirmed the death of the woman, who was from an African country. The police arrested the driver.
He said the woman was standing in the middle of the road when she was blown over by a strong gust of wind.
Her abaya got caught in the wheels of the passing school bus, which dragged her under the vehicle. The driver did not see her but could feel something under the bus. However, he could not stop the vehicle immediately, said Nawaz.
Nawaz said there were no passengers in the bus at the time. “No students or teachers were hurt,” he said, in response to rumors that a teacher had also died.
“Eyewitnesses have given statements exonerating the driver,” he said. “The lady fell down because of the wind and unfortunately died. We are sure that the driver will be released from jail because it was an accident,” he said.
