The Jeddah-based International Commission for Woman and Muslim Family (ICWMF) has launched an initiative to extend maternity leave from two to six months, local media reported.
The initiative also calls for increasing the number of nurseries for children below two years, in addition to employing Saudi female graduates to work at these nurseries and allowing an hour for breastfeeding, said Hayat Shihab, secretary-general of the ICWMF.
She said the ICWMF has approached a female member of the Shoura Council with the proposal.
