How to measure your social media influence using KLOUT

Klout is great for working out the real reach of a person's influence, as well as for identifying your own influence, perhaps as a means for spurring on your lackluster performance! It's also a great way to see if you are encouraging people to take action based on your online activities. Here's how to use it!

1. Go to klout.com and Sign up. Simply start by clicking on the button that says "Sign In" using your Facebook and Twitter account only.
2. Allow access to your Twitter account. You will be taken to a page where it requests that you accept or deny the application to have access to your Twitter account. If you accept, click on Accept and you'll be redirected back to the Klout application.
3. Fill in the application boxes. A standard box will appear and you'll need to fill in. Click on "Continue" once you've filled in the details. You'll be taken back to Klout and you'll see your own sphere of influence. What is your score for Facebook alone? What is your score for Twitter? Is it what you expected? What can you do to improve?
4. Your Klout score is the measurement of your overall influence online. The scoring goes from 1 to 100. Your reach is the size of your engaged audience. Your Influence is your ability to drive people to "action", this is interpreted as twitter replies and retweets, and Facebook’s comments and shares.
5. Increase your Klout. In your Dashboard, you can find ways to increase your Klout. If you haven't already added in Facebook and LinkedIn, add them as well now. You can also add Fourscare and Instagram.
6. Play around with Klout. Check out other people's Klout and compare them to you.
