Arab League meeting on Syria delayed

CAIRO: Saudi Arabia called for the indefinite delay of an emergency Arab League meeting on Syria that they had originally called for.
Deputy Sec. Gen. of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed bin Helli announced that the meeting, slated to take place Monday, had been postponed at the Kingdom’s request.
The subject was to be the implementation of the decisions on Syria taken at the Arab League summit in Kuwait in late March.
There many Arab leaders had sounded notes of despair over the ongoing bloodshed.
At the summit, the Syrian opposition had called for more Arab aid while Arab League chief Nabil Elarabi said a negotiated settlement to the conflict remained out of reach.
He warned that the civil war was proving “disastrous” for the region and threatening the security of Syria’s neighbors.
