More than 700,000 traffic violations were recorded in Riyadh in the past three months, local media reported quoting data released by the Riyadh Traffic Department.
The Traffic Department also tracked down 749 car drifters and spectators, Al-Watan said quoting Brig. Gen. Ali Al-Dibaikhi, director of Riyadh Traffic Police.
A task force from the Investigation Department was recently assigned to carry out intensive crackdowns on car repair workshops, which resulted in the discovery of 244 unlicensed workshops, according to the director.
According to Brig. Gen. Al-Dibaikhi, the traffic offenses included 33,365 cases of driving without licenses, 33,063 instances of absent car registration documents, 59,112 records of dismissed traffic signals, 68,538 irregular parking violations, 34,663 erroneous overtaking, and numerous other traffic infringements.
Inter-city over-speeding was among the highest rates of traffic violations in the past three months, with a total of 66,253 cases, followed by 62,465 cases of absent car plates or blurred ones and the least registered traffic violation recorded was traffic reversing at 18,617 cases, he said.
Meanwhile, some 41,948 heavy-duty trucks were ordered to adhere to certain roads and times to enter the city, which considerably ensured smooth flow of traffic and eased bottlenecks in the city, he said.
On the other hand, traffic inspectors seized 790 motorcycles and removed some 5,726 cars parked near car repair shops, which also served to regulate traffic flow in a number of major inter-city roads, he pointed out.
