Three judges were relieved of their duties for committing serious violations, while another 17 are set to face investigations for administrative and procedural mistakes, local media reported, quoting a source at the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).
There are around 1,800 judges in the Saudi justice departments, according to a local daily newspaper.
Judges enjoy immunity and are not subject to investigation unless authorized by the SJC. On termination of service, a judge is stripped off his immunity and the offender is liable to prosecution.
Over the past few years, a number of investigations have been launched against judges, accused mainly of forging land deeds.
The highest number of judicial breaches was registered in the western province, particularly Jeddah, with many of the cases still pending in courts.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohamed Amin Mirdad, member of the SJC, stressed that the council is entrusted with monitoring the performance of judges.
