Illegal fees hike

It is good to see the authorities take such strict actions against schools which violate the laws and indulge in the practice of unilateral increase in fees. The ministry should devise a comprehensive strategy to rein in such schools and make them abide by the law. Closure of schools, however, may not be a very good idea. The sudden closure of schools will only add to the woes of parents and their children studying in that school. Where will they go? It is difficult to get admission to other schools during an academic session.
The action is undoubtedly commendable but it should have been taken by taking into consideration this very important issue.
The Ministry of Education should impose heavy fines on erring schools and appoint a team to supervise such schools so that they don’t increase fees. This will be in the interest of the students. In addition to that a hot line should also be established for parents to report such violations. This will act as a deterrent and school managements will think twice before raising the fee illegally. One more thing the principals and members of the top management should be punished for this practice. This will help control the situation. — Rafiq Ahmed, Riyadh
