The special court of appeals in Jeddah has issued prison sentences and travel bans to four people including three Saudis and a Yemeni national for accusing some Arab governments for expiation and being in possession of prohibited memos and computer materials.
The men were charged with holding opinions contrary to the Kingdom’s law according to which it is illegal for young men to fight in places of conflict without the permission of the guardian. In addition, the accused were allegedly involved in buying and possessing weapons without licenses and meeting with and harboring people who have deviant ideas.
Of the total number of the eight accused persons, four of them were handed prison sentences ranging from two to nine years.
One defendant was sentenced to a two-year imprisonment starting from the date of arrest and prevented from traveling abroad for two years.
The Yemeni national was convicted and sentenced to three and a half years of jail time for money laundering. Another defendant was imprisoned for nine years and banned from traveling for the same period for being in possession of arms and the misuse of technology.
The fourth defendant was given a sentence of eight and a half years and prevented from leaving the Kingdom for a similar duration.
The accused were informed that they had up to 30 days to appeal the verdict. If there were no objections to the sentences, the cases would be referred to the specialized court of appeals.
