Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) Gov. Saad Al-Qasabi has stressed the need for adopting Saudi standards in the energy and other sectors in view of their impact on the national economy and to protect the market against nonconforming goods.
Al-Qasabi’s observations came in an official statement on the sidelines of a meeting of the board of directors headed by Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq Al-Rabiah. The board approved the technical regulations for Saudi standard for fuel economy (SAUDI CAFE) for light vehicles, which will come into force with effect from January 2016 and remain valid until 2020.
The governor referred to the vital role of the commission in support of several national strategic initiatives for the standardization of energy and water sectors through technical insulation materials and the Saudi standard for fuel economy and modernization of air conditioner specifications. During the meeting, the council also decided to cancel the old energy efficiency card of refrigerators and freezers. The resolution implementation will take place in two months.
According to Al-Qasabi, the commission also adopted a number of strategic issues within the framework of the overall development plan of the Kingdom. They were also in favor of exerting more efforts and boosting cooperation with other bodies and stakeholders to activate the strategic national initiatives.
He pointed out that the board approved the adoption of 196 standards and 54 new in the sectors of chemical and petroleum products, insulation and textiles, electrical and electronic products, mechanical and metal products, scales and balances, in addition to the construction sector.
