It is really sad to hear about the death of music legend George Michael. Only people my age understand what an awe-inspiring talent he was. I remember him as an inspiration to the whole 1980s generation. I remember when we used to buy books of Western song lyrics in Jordan. By the time I went to the US to complete my education, I had memorized most of his songs.
I had the chance to listen to him live at a concert in 1986 while I was still studying in the US. I fell in love with his voice and was overwhelmed with the words of his songs. Even my American friends were surprised that I knew all his songs by heart. I remember one occasion where I was invited to a friend’s party and was asked to sing one of his songs before the audience.
He was a popstar who had millions of fans worldwide. Every time his name comes to mind, I recall the words of his famous songs “Careless Whisper” and “Last Christmas.” Those have been, and will continue to be, two of my favorite songs of all time.
