JEDDAH: Amy Schumer and Steve Martin are teaming up for laughs — on Broadway.
The actress and comedian will star in Martin’s four-person comedy “Meteor Shower” at the Booth Theatre starting in November. It’s about two couples who get together to observe the celestial event that inspires the title.
Schumer will be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk. Schumer and Key will be making their Broadway debuts. Martin was last represented on Broadway with his bluegrass-driven musical “Bright Star.”
Meteor Shower is an adult comedy by Steve Martin directed by Gordon Edelstein, a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre. It made its debut at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego last year and went on to Connecticut’s Long Wharf Theatre later the same year.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am,” Martin said. “I’ve been working on this for over 20 years — I wrote it in the ‘90s, when it is set, but I did not finish it; I got distracted, and then it came back to me a couple of years ago,” according to The New York Times
The Old Globe website carries a short description about the play, which basically revolves about a couple, Norm and his wife Corky, who invite another couple to their backyard to watch a meteor shower in the night sky.
Martin wrote the story for the Disney movie “Magic Camp,” which will be released in 2018.
Schumer has won many awards, the latest one was the GALECA Dorian Award of Wild Wit for 2016, and been nominated for a Primetime Emmy.
