DUBAI: Are you one of those people who feel physically moved by your favorite music? You are not imagining it, the sensation you think you are feeling is a real thing according to Harvard University undergraduate Matthew Sachs.
He found that the physical reaction to music, experienced by some people, such as shivers down the spine, a lump in your throat or goose bumps, were genuine feelings.
But they are reactions that only a few people encounter – most people do not experience these sensations.
Sachs’ research revealed that these people have differently structured brains to those who do not feel physically moved.
According to the research those who get the physical sensations have a better link between the hearing department of the brain’s temporal lobe and the sections of the brain that monitor and regulate emotions.
In short that means these people have stronger, more intense emotions than other people, according to Sachs.
So if you are one of these people who is mover, then the next time you find yourself raving about a tune and the other person says the “just don’t get it,” they are not being flippant, they probably just do not get it.
Does your favorite song leave you with a lump in your throat? You are not imagining it.
