DUBAI: Oman’s governmental drive to employ local citizens has reached 97 percent of its target, national daily Times of Oman reported.
Between December 2017 and April 2018 24,172 out of the targeted 25,000 Omanis were employed within the private sector in the country, according to the Ministry of Manpower.
The jobs were distributed across four main sectors: construction (32.5 percent), wholesale and retail trade (14.3 percent), manufacturing (13.5 percent), and transportation (7.1 percent).
Out of the Omanis employed, 16,293 were men while 7,879 were women.
The Omanization drive is part of a government’s push to recruit more of its citizens, a similar push is underway across the GCC where countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have also been trying to increase the number of locals in employment.
