MADINAH: Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman, who is also chairman of the board of trustees of the Madinah Award Foundation, on Monday approved the addition of two new categories for the upcoming edition of the awards this year.

The new categories are Excellence in Managing Business Remotely, and Excellence in Managing Crises and Risks.

The performance of the government sector will be judged under these new categories. These new categories have been established due to the change in working conditions caused by the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mohammed Ibrahim Abbas, secretary-general of the foundation, said that these new categories would help encourage government entities to improve their performance amid the pandemic and to come up with innovative digital solutions to offer services to the public without any interruption and hassles.

Abbas said due to the pandemic government agencies are facing huge challenges. These new categories, he said, will help in assessing their overall management and performance.

The award was launched with three categories but over time the number of categories has increased to five. The categories include Excellence in Achieving the Satisfaction of Beneficiaries, Excellence in Continuous Improvement and Quality Systems, Excellence in Execution of Projects, Excellence in Employing and Service People with Special Needs, and Excellence in Employing and Serving Women.
