JEDDAH, 17 April — Jeddah has a new mayor. Dr. Abdullah Yahya Al-Muallemi, who is a member of the Shoura Council, was named by a royal decree yesterday as the new mayor. Dr. Muallemi was a member of Riyadh’s Provincial Council before taking his new position in Jeddah. Former acting Mayor, Dr. Abdul Fatah Fuad has been appointed as the director general of the Sewage Department.

The Governor of Makkah Region Prince Abdul Majeed commented, during a press conference at the Umrah Services Exhibition which he opened yesterday, on the new appointment. “We know Dr. Muallemi as a good and hard working man, and I am confident that he will work hard for the sake of the city,” said Prince Abdul Majeed.

Dr. Muallemi is the fourth mayor for Jeddah after Dr. Nazeeh Naseef who was relieved of his position last October. As for Dr. Abdul Fatah, the governor said that the former acting mayor had asked to be appointed to his new position. “Dr. Abdul Fatah insisted that he be shifted to the Sewage Department saying that it is his field,” said the governor.

“We all trust Dr. Abdul Fatah and we know how good his work will be,” added the governor. Prince Abdul Majeed said that there are three main issues that must be solved immediately, the sewage water problem, the floods, and the ground water.
