JEDDAH, 1 April — Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Dr. Muhammad Al-Jarallah has signed contracts with a total value of SR165 million for six projects in Jeddah.
The first project is a three-year contract for constructing and maintaining a drainage network in north Jeddah at a cost of SR10 million, including the establishment of a service and technical center.
Due to heavy rains last week, schools in villages surrounding Jeddah and Makkah were closed on Wednesday. Water covered the roads making travel virtually impossible.
“The problem of constant flooding will come to an end soon,” said Prince Abdul Majeed after attending a function here last week. He said Jeddah needs SR20 billion to establish a drainage system over the next 20 years.
The second project is for cleaning north Jeddah at a cost of SR11,256,924. The contract is for a three-year-period. The third project is for cleaning south Jeddah at a cost of SR21,493,591. The contracts, signed with Alwan Est. and Zahran Company, were also for three years.
A 36-month contract worth SR82,888,060 was signed with Safa Company for area maintenance of central Jeddah.
The fifth project is also a 36-month contract and is for maintaining the new districts of Jeddah at a cost of SR16,433,570. Another 36-month contract was signed with Safa Company for maintenance of streets in southern Jeddah at a cost of SR22,496,634.
