DHAHRAN, 25 April — Naif Al-Yousef appeared in a Denver County courtroom at 9 a.m. yesterday morning but acting on a request from his attorney, the judge once again postponed the preliminary hearing on Al-Yousef’s involvement in the murder of Saudi student Abdulaziz Al-Koohaji.

This is the second postponement since the original hearing was scheduled on March 28. The postponement was granted due to new evidence discovered by the prosecution, which had not yet been shared with the defense attorney.

According to US law, all evidence to be presented in court must be known to both sides in a case.

Just days ago the prosecution discovered some surveillance videotapes from a car rental company and an apartment complex that featured Al-Yousef. The district attorney’s office had not yet had time to make copies of the tapes and deliver them to Al-Yousef’s attorney before yesterday’s hearing. So the defense requested time to review the new evidence.

The preliminary hearing is now scheduled for May 8.
