JEDDAH, 3 May — In a trend-setting mode, the Philippine International School in Jeddah (IPSJ) has recently released its Digital Year Book containing the highlights of academic year 2000-2001.
Mrs. Fatima L.M. Natangcop, Officer-in-Charge and Assistant Principal, said that the IPSJ Digital Yearbook is the first of its kind not only in the Kingdom but in the Philippines as well.
Even as 100 copies of the yearbook have been distributed, 400 additional copies are forthcoming.
This is similar to a printed yearbook as a source of reminiscences of those treasured moments in schools. However, unlike the conventional yearbook, it comes in a compact disk (CD) which is portable and handy.
Mrs. Natangcop further explained that the digital yearbook is similar to video CD and a web page. With a CD, it can store as much as 2,000 pictures, more or less, while at the same time all the write-ups can be read, just like a printed school annual.
Unlike a hard copy yearbook whereby a person can only enjoy pictures and the write-ups, a digital annual offers a wider range of choices.
If nostalgia strikes in the future, proud parents can instantly relive the experience of seeing their children sing and dance or hear their child deliver the valedictory address.
The IPSJ Digital Yearbook 2001 was conceptualized and produced by Online 15 which is a company that deals with businesses primarily on the Internet, headed by Gary Paala.
Meanwhile, the IPSJ’s Officer-in-Charge also announced the holding of a week-long seminar-workshop in the third week of May to enable the faculty to keep themselves abreast with modern trends and approaches in teaching to be conducted by the newly appointed School Principal, Dr. Reinita M. Respicio.
The seminar-workshop will be the opening salvo in the incoming school year program to firm up the 19-year old school’s avowed goal to provide quality education to children of OFWs and other expatriates. IPSJ enrolment will going on up to May 30, 2001.
